TRADITIONAL SPACE ARTISTS

Chesley Bonestell (1888-1986) was the father of modern space art. His career spanned nearly a century, from his early architectural work on the Golden Gate Bridge and the Chrysler Building to his seminal contributions to the beginnings of the American space program. |

Pamela Lee (b. 1949) In 1985, Pamela was invited to join the NASA Art Program for Discovery's launch. In 1986, she was invited to tour space and cultural facilities throughout Russia, Ukraine and Georgia with the Young Astronauts/Young Cosmonauts Exchange. In Star City, she was privileged to present her Young Astronauts Council commissioned painting to the director of the Yuri Gagarin Museum. The following year, she attended the "Space Futures Forum" in Moscow as one of five invited artists in Dr. Carl Sagan's Planetary Society entourage. In 1989, she attended the Association of Space Explorers Congress in Rihyad, Saudi Arabia as one of four invited artist/exhibitors. |

Dr. William K. Hartmann (b. 1950?) is known internationally as a scientist, writer, and painter. His research involves origin and evolution of planets and planetary surfaces, and the small bodies of the solar system. Hartmann holds a Ph.D. in Astronomy and M.S. in Geology, both from the University of Arizona, and a B.S. in Physics from Pennsylvania State University. |

International Space University is a private University founded in 1987. The University currently offers two degree granting programs--the Master of Space Management and the Master of Space Studies--in addition to a non-degree-granting Space Studies Program. The permanent campus of the International Space University is located in Illkirch-Graffenstaden near Strasbourg, France. The permanent campus hosts the students in both Masters' programs, while the Space Studies Program is held in a different city each year. The ISU was founded on the "3-I" philosophy to create an Interdisciplinary, Intercultural and International environment for study and training as a Space professional. |
