AS OF APRIL 28, 2007 I AM POSTING MY NEWS UPDATES ON MY BLOG

Wednesday, April 18, 2007

I found out earlier today that I was honored with the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation 'Power of Art Award'! I am being flown out (all expenses paid!) to Washington DC, on May 17-20, to attend a black tie awards ceremony at the Corcoran Gallery (literally right next door to the White House), at which Mr. Rauschenberg himself will be presenting the awards! 32 art teachers from 31 states were chosen, myself being the sole representative from California! More information to come!

The video of me painting while strapped to the roof of my car; Joshua Tree, has just passed 1,500 views on YouTube.Com! Since I loaded it up onto that site in September, it has been seen on average 8 times a day! That is in addition to the incalculable number of people who saw it on television in Austria, at various exhibitions in Canada and the United States, and on various other websites. Thank you for making it such a great success!

I'm going on vacation to Europe in June! I'm flying to Paris, where I'll spend time with a great old friend David Cohen, an artist and filmmaker. Then I'll head south to Aix-en-Provence to see Cezanne's studio, and then to Nice to visit Matisse's apartment! I'll also be going to Milan, Naples, Florence, Rome and Venice (for the Biennale), where I'll meet up with my parents and little sister who will also be vacationing! If you know of any interesting places to visit, please let me know!

I just recieved the digital images of my recent paintings and drawings in the mail today, from the photographer who has been documenting my artwork for the past several years, Robert Wedemeyer. Since that moment I've been busy working on this website, adding new images and working hard to make it as comprehensive as possible. Please keep checking back to see the new additions!

Wow! What a weekend! Both 'Art Night' and 'Off the Wall' were incredible successes, for myself and the Armory Center which hosted the events. My painting The Death of James Dean, 2007 was purchased for a handsome sum by a wonderful couple after a fierce little bidding war with a number of other serious collectors! It was an amazing moment in my young career that I will forever cherish! I cannot express how blessed I felt to see so many people interested in my artwork. Thank-you from the depths of my heart to all those people who made it so special!

A friendly reminder that tonight is the big Off The Wall art auction at the Armory Center for the Arts. Tickets cost $125. Please call the Armory to see if tickets are still available if you are thinking of coming down.

Tonight is Art Night in Pasadena. You can come down to the Armory Center for the Arts and view my latest artwork in person before it finds its way into someone's home tomorrow night! Click on the link to find out more information; besides the Rose Bowl Parade, Art Night is one of the biggest social events in Pasadena.

The O.J. Simpson Chase painting at its present home!

I had the priveledge today of having the celebrated photographer Robert Wedemeyer shoot a whole bunch of my most recent paintings and drawings. I also had the opportunity to have some of my older artwork documented at the business offices of one of my collectors! I'll post those images in the next couple of weeks, please stay tuned for updates!

Despite the fact that I have the flu again for the third time in six weeks, I'm busy working on a large painting. It will be titled The Death of James Dean II, and is roughly a third larger than the first version I did (which is currently on display at the Armory Center for the Arts as part of "Off the Wall" and "Art Night". Simultaneously, I'm also making three small Death of James Dean paintings. Please do not hesitate to call me and come on over if you'd like to see them in progress!

The Death of James Dean, oil on canvas, 2007

I dropped off my latest painting to the gallery at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, just in time for the upcoming "Pasadena Art Night" and "Off The Wall art auction", which takes place Friday and Saturday, March 9 & 10th, respectively.

This is what I've been doing all weekend here in sunny southern California! I've turned my front lawn into my art studio. Who would have thought I'd become a Plein-air painter! The painting I'm working on in the photograph is called The Death of James Dean.

I'm recovering from a terrible bicycle accident a couple days ago. I went over the handle bars while breaking to avoid a pedestrian. I broke both of my elbows and severly sprained my writsts.

Very excited to release it out into the world! Please contact me if you'd like a signed copy (the first printing is a limited edition of 250 copies).

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! I've been working on my book all morning, getting ready to put the finishing touches on it. Hopefully we'll be ready to send it off to the printers sometime this week! Also, I've done a whole bunch of new paintings, hopefully they will be dry in time to mail to Canada in time for my show next month!

Thursday, September 21, 2006

I'm taking a break at the moment, as I've been painting all morning. Lots of new work to show you! You maybe interested to know that the video I shot in the desert that was displayed at the MAK Center a few weeks ago is now in Switzerland! Check out Heinrich Schmidt Galerie, Edition + Kunstprojekte to see the video in its entirety.

Thursday, September 7, 2006

The opening at the MAK Center last night was a complete success! Thank you to everyone who made it out, and those who called to congratulate me. For those of you who didn't get a chance to view the finished video "Joshue Tree Driving Painting Project", please be patient. A link to the video will be online shortly.

Wednesday, September 6, 2006

Reminder about the opening this evening, 7-9pm at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture, at the Schindler House, 835 North Kings Road, West Hollywood, CA 90069. Parking is a nightmare in this area, so try and carpool if you can. Look forward to seeing you there!

Wednesday, August 30, 2006

There will be an opening on Septemeber 6th, 2006 from 7-9pm at the MAK Center for the Arts, to celebrate the MAK Center Artists and Architects in Residence, Group XXII and their "Final Projects"; Carmada was Sonja Vordermaier's project, for which I created my most recent artwork. The exhibition will be on view through September 10th, 2006.

Monday, August 28, 2006

My performance for the Carmada event went spectacularly well! Good friends Zachary Stadel, Kory Kinder, Aaron Bocanegra and Greg Kucera drove up to an area near Joshua Tree with me to film me making paintings on the roof of my car while we drove along the freeway. The results were amazing, to say the least! (Click here to see the video).

Here's an example of one of the paintings that I made while strapped to the roof of my car, its entitled Joshua Tree as Seen From the Roof of My Moving Car III, oil on canvas, 2006.

These are images from the Carmada opening reception downtown, with a giant video projection of my latest artwork!

Later that night, Saturday August 26th, we had a reception downtown that was heavily attended, and the video we shot that morning was a big hit with the audience. Thank you to all those people who were in attendance and particularly those that had such nice things to say about the artwork we made! It was sincerely one of the greatest moments of my life! Please stay tuned to see video and photography of the event and of my absurd performance!

Monday, August 21, 2006

I will be creating a series of artworks for the Carmada exhibition at the MAK Center for the Arts, this Saturday, August 26th. There will be a reception from 7-10pm at 1168 E. 5th Street, Los Angeles, 90013.
