"He is very ambitious with his projects."
Pasadena Star News (May 18, 2007)

"He believes that art can inspire kids and help them contribute to the world, especially when they have no other avenue for creativity."
Pasadena Weekly (May 17, 2008)

"Markowsky's art captures the chaos of life that happens in a split second."
CityTV, Canada (May 7, 2008)

"Michael Markowsky has come up with a unique spin on the traditional landscape painting."
BeatRoute Magazine (May 2008)

"[Michael Markowsky] has caught the eye of the art world"
ShawTV, Canada (May 7, 2008)

"The large Markowsky painting hanging in our dining room is full of intrigue and exuberance at the same time. His unique approach to the subject matter -- James Dean's last drive in his Porsche -- makes the work more than distinctive; it's provocative and intelligent, never failing to elicit comments from family and friends who see it."
Lori Dillman, Collector, Pasadena (November 24, 2008)

"Michael Markowsky does not seem content to look at things; he needs to absorb them so intensely he drags them in, so that his hand, without being controlled by the eyes, can release them lighter than they have ever been, changed into images. Images flow from the tips of his fingers."
Rosanna Albertini, faculty at USC, UCLA and Otis,
and Chairperson of the Annenberg Dialogues at the USC
as quoted from her essay "Psycho Sites" (August 2006)

"There are two fascinating aspects of Michael Markowsky’s art. The first is the range of his expression. From ‘blind drawings” of the Los Angeles citycape and people, to landscape paintings inspired by the movement and brilliant colors of the Southern California environment, to videos that range from documentation of his drawing process to narrative fantasies – Markowsky seems to be constantly exploring new approaches.
The second defining aspect of his art is his engagement in the particular area where he is working. The drawings he has made with his right hand while he drives the freeways are specific to Southern California, for example, and his willingness to paint in public and have one-on-one interactions with passersby connects him to a distinct location in ways that is rare for contemporary artists. It is the combined sense of exploration of media, location, and direct connection to the community that sets Markowsky’s work apart."
Jay Belloli, Curator & Director of Gallery Programs,
Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena, California (November 4, 2008)

"During the Monster Drawing Rally, Markowsky's untraditional drawing performance took center stage, surprising hundreds of art enthusiasts and producing equally surprising results."
Julie Deamer, Outpost for Contemporary Art (November 5, 2008)

"Michael Markowsky is a LA-based artist whose energetic and intriguing work documents the California landscape from a unique and refreshing perspective. His drawings and paintings are filled with dynamic movement and gestures, as well as a striking sense of wonder. In addition, he is a kind, genuine and generous person who is a pleasure to work with."
Price Latimer Agah, Curator, Los Angeles, California
(November 4, 2008)

"Instead of standing in front of an easel to capture the gentle rolling landscape of the French countryside, Michael Markowsky opts to let it whiz past him. As Markowsky sits next to the bus driver he draws hastily to show the motion of the passing buildings and trees on the route."
Chloe Jones, Where Magazine (March/April 2008)

"Ranked #9: The rolling landscapes of Michael Markowsky's paintings"
"30 Things We Love About Calgary," Where Magazine
(March/April 2008)

"The results of Markowsky's efforts make up a series of Impression-istic and very colorful scenes that move with a lightness and freedom that easily suggests the open road."
Jill Sawyer, WorldWeb.com (Spring 2008)

"Markowsky has traveled around the California Coast and French Riviera, sketching what had just flashed before his eyes, all the while the car he was traveling in or on continued its trek."
Shaw TV, Canada (May 7, 2008)

"[Markowsky] resides in Los Angeles, where he does a great job of impressing those Yanks."
Calgary Sun (May 30, 2007)

"I just visited Axis Art Gallery... and was impressed with Michael Markowsky’s work. As he was driving from Hollywood to Pasadena he made quick sketches and then returned to his studio to make complete paintings. They appealed to me... because i lived there for 6 years and it was fun to look at the ’scapes and remember the sultry light of Southern California."
PaperAndCanvas, Art blog (November 18, 2006)

"In a word, passion. Michael Markowsky has passion. About art. Like no one else I know. His passion to make art his life's work is his true genius. I am looking forward to the day where I can say, 'Yeah, I know that guy. The one on the cover of xxxx. I always knew he would be famous.' ...Michael will be famous. I have no doubt."
Nancy Trueman, Hong Kong (November 18, 2008)
